Wellness Tips for Students
Surveying students, families, and staff within schools that value SEL principles can bring to light historically overlooked student mental health concerns and provide insights on how to strengthen school climate. Student benefits will be maximized when teachers, schools and communities work closely together to plan for and deliver quality health and wellness learning opportunities for their students. Families, friends, local organizations and students themselves must play a critical role in health and wellness education (Anspaugh & Ezell, 2010).
As schools evolve into community wellness centers, students and their parents are starting to expect a hub of education and attention for the community. Training and resources for students to develop mental health literacy, weaving wellness into everyday school culture. Understanding Mental Wellness is a digital resource that introduces middle and high school students to mental health education. The Federal Partners in School Health (FPSH) is an alliance of Federal agencies that assists K-12 schools, local education agencies (LEAs or school districts), and state education agencies (SEAs) support the physical and mental health of all students and promote healthy school environments.

Even the best wellness plans will fall short if they aren’t properly resourced. Invite community partners to participate in PD days, wellness events, or family engagement nights to increase visibility and trust.
